It’s almost impossible to find Montana’s frontier glory day beer brand signs…but these reproductions are the next best thing. This sign from our short lived Montana Brewing Company (1894-1918—Great Falls, MT) is reportedly one of the rarest of vintage signs available. Their brands were Best Beer & My Favorite Beer…unlike many reproductions sold via eBay and elsewhere this features crisp art work, bright colors and a great inset picture of the Missouri River falls. A perfect piece of Montana brewing history at an affordable price. Printed on .125 Metal.
About Montana Brewing Company: Located in Great Falls along the course followed by the Lewis and Clark expedition, Montana Brewing Company was only open between 1894-1918 and to my knowledge only produced two main brands – Best Beer & the My Favorite Beer Brand. Owned by J. H. Johnson, it appears that it grew out of the American Brewing and Malting Company of which Mr Johnson and J. Trimborn. In ads of the day, they touted their pneumatic drum malting plant (an exclusive to Montana at the time) and their strict adherence to the “pure food law.” My Favorite Beer was described as “a special brew of bottled beer. Pure as can be. The best of drinks…”

These are 18.5 x 10.5 x .75-1.0 in (depending on the wood we’re using). We don’t make many of them – but they are each made with love.
Old Faithful Beer Bottle Opener. This is one of my favorite pieces of art associated with Montana classic brewania. We offer these in solid pine/whitewood. Or with a light stain or in composite veneer version.
The brewery was a post prohibition revival by the son of Montana beer forefather Julius Lehrkind. The elder Lehrkind built Bozeman beer into a pre-prohibition giant. Many say prohibition literally broke his heart. He died just a few years after it took effect in 1922.
His son,Carl Lehrkind, took up the mantle but the effort lasted only 6 years. The company closed due to economic factors including robust national completion, increased costs, a switch to cans by many national brewers and other issues affecting many smaller independent brewers. The Lehrkind family name lives on in Montana with their soft drink company started to hold them over during prohibition.
Montana, and especially our hometown of Helena, is famous for it’s amazing bike trails…wall-mounted bottle opener. Riders come off the local trails craving a great local brewed Montana beer. Now you can bring the same spirit to your beer room, garage or patio…5.5″ x 12″ wood wall-mounted bottle opener with rustic opener. Available in composite wood or .75″ solid pine. We lightly stained to protect the wood and bring out the grain.
Ok, while it’s probably true that Smokey the Beer doesn’t endorse any Montana beers at this point, chances are that he enjoys a few in his off hours when in state…and always responsibly of course. So beer art aside, we figured it was worth printing up this great Smokey piece on tin…it looks amazing.
